Publishing
My aim is delve into the lore, character and soul of your story, so that I can bring that to life through art. Fantasy maps aren't just about geography, they're about immersing your reader into the atmosphere of your world from the first page.
I started illustrating book maps because I was often disappointed with modern maps when reading (I grew up spoiled with LOTR maps and suchlike). Often I find today's maps feel computerised and a little dull, and I craved that nostalgic feeling of magic, mystery and adventure on the first page. So I created a hand illustrated map for my debut novel, and never looked back!

Maps Process
1. Joint brainstorming session where we discuss your world's geography, lore, character, and symbolism. I also read the first few chapters of your book.
2. You create a VERY rough sketch and provide list of locations + labels for the map. I create a design pathway document for you with reference images.
3. I create the major draft in pencil and send it to you for feedback. Major and minor edits can still be made at this stage.
4. I create final piece in ink. Minor elements (but no major changes) may be added at this point. We both sign the licensing contract which gives you rights for publication.
5. I send you the final digital files and ship/deliver the framed and mounted original to you.

"Working with Holly is a delight. She managed to transform a knotty, abstract concept into a fabulously engaging illustration – which perhaps unsurprisingly led to my best impressions, reactions and comments results yet. I'd jump at the chance to work with her again."
