This art print was inspired by the incredible conservation work of the Fylde Sand Dunes Project run by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust. Sand lizards are one of the UK's rarest reptiles, and since 2018, over 400 sand lizards have been reintroduced to the sand dunes at Fylde in Lancashire.
Holly wanted this painting to balance two contrasting perspectives of the sand dunes. The first, and most important, is a celebration of the abundance and diversity of wildlife native to this special habitat, from butterflies, bumblebees and birds to marram grass, sand sedge and Isle of Man cabbage. The hero of the artwork is the sand lizard, whose jewelled green scales shimmer in the light and whose calm gaze invites the viewer to see the dunes from its perspective.
The artwork also evokes a nostalgic love for the human experience of the dunes. The path recalls memories of running along sandy tracks towards the shore with childhood anticipation, while the horizontal bands of sky, sea and sand honour the vast openness of this wild coastal landscape.
Make this one of a kind art print yours today to celebrate our beautiful sand dunes habitat, the sand lizard 'good news story' conservation efforts, and your own connection to this special place.
