Watercolour, Metallic Watercolour and Black Ink | A3
This artwork celebrates people who make their homes a place of peace.
Home for many people around the world can be a word associated not with peace but with fear, exclusion or unpredictability. To build a home which is a place of refuge and sanctuary - a retreat from the demands of the world - a place to be nourished and rested, is a beautiful and precious thing.
The painting celebrates the power of the home-makers who create spaces where they, and their loved ones, can rest and rejuvenate and find peace. The geese in the top right hand corner symbolise Mary Oliver's poem 'Wild Geese' in which there is a line:
'Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.'
Heading home, this artwork is a blessing for all those who create homes of peace, and affirms the importance of a safe place to call home as a human right that every person (and animal) deserves.
