Watercolour, Metallic Watercolour and Black Ink | A3
This striking artwork encourages us to discover where we are called to work for peace in our time.
The most political of Holly's Peace Collection, the gathering storm clouds represent the forces of violence and darkness in the world. The white poppies (long a symbol of peace) and the sun rays symbolise the grassroots individuals and organisations spreading kindness and hope. The three tall white poppies in the right hand corner represent the leaders of peace in today's world. The title references the Jewish story of Queen Esther as an encouragement to us today to meet the challenges of our time and become peacemakers in whatever appropriate ways we can.
The painting does not provide one single answer to this question, but rather invites you to consider for yourself where you are called to be a poppy of peace in your social and political context. It is both a challenge and a hopeful encouragement that though there may be storms around you, there are also glimmers of hope, peace and kindness all around too.
